As recently as July 2023, it was additionally awarded two task orders in support of the National Energy Modeling System (NEMS), which enables DOE to examine prospective pathways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These capabilities have evidently wowed stakeholders across DOI, as the agency awarded EMPSi a cultural monitoring services contract in May 2023 that has a reported value of $1M. Having this win under its belt, EMPSi is a notable firm within the federal environmental and sustainability sector that both other agencies and other competitors should remain abreast of.

SC&A – SC&A offers particularly relevant services in the environmental and sustainability field, including nuclear and radiation sciences; air quality and climate change; human health risk; climate action; emission inventories and projections; permitting and compliance; health science and risk assessment; environmental, health, and safety; resiliency and emergency management services; remediation support; quality assurance and control; and environmental science and engineering. Armed with this repertoire of capabilities, SC&A threw its hat in the ring for a contract involving technical support for inspections and audits of the Waste Isolation Pilot Program (WIPP) within EPA. Within March 2023, the firm won this $2.7M contract and will continue to support the agency until its ultimate expiration date in February 2026. Arrowhead Contracting – Within February 2023, Arrowhead Consulting beat out the competition and secured a reportedly $20M contract within EPA that involves response activities to address contaminated soil removal and disposal. This small business firm provides numerous environmental capabilities that it was able to leverage during this contest, such as environmental remediation and restoration, environmental services, site reclamation, design-build, groundwater remediation, demolition and decommissioning, air quality monitoring, and dust control. Provided Arrowhead Contracting’s active support of EPA and expertise in this area, this company will be another to keep tabs on in the coming months.

Environmental Restoration – Environmental Restoration is a small business with a significant impact in the environmental and sustainability sector of the federal government. Equipped with capabilities to include emergency response, environmental remediation and construction, industrial services, facility demolition and decontamination, soil remediation, groundwater remediation, and residential excavation and remediation, it is a formidable competitor. Due to such solution offerings, EPA awarded Environmental Restoration with a $1.9M contract in April 2023 to remove and arrange for the transport and disposal of hazardous waste that poses a detriment to the environment. Having already impressed EPA with such capabilities, other agencies are sure to follow suit and favor this firm in other environmental and sustainability competitions.
